Former India cricketer Jacob Martin, who played 10 ODIs for the country in 1999-2001, is in critical condition. Jacob had met with a road accident on December 28 and is now on a ventilator and fighting for his life after suffering injuries to his liver and lungs.

The ailing former Baroda cricketer has received support from cricketers. Krunal Pandya has left a blank cheque with Patel. "Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh," Krunal told Patel, as quoted by The Telegraph.

Jacob played for Baroda throughout his career except during the 2002–03 season when he played for Railways. He led the side from the 2000-01 season onwards. Under his leadership, Baroda won Ranji Trophy in 2000-01 and runners up next season.

His wife had appealed to BCCI for financial support and they issued rupees 5 lakh for Jacob's treatment. “Once I came to know about the accident I tried to help Jacob’s family in every possible way,” Former BCCI and BCA secretary Sanjay Patel had said.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has also joined the group of cricketers coming forward to support him.

"Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person. While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone," Ganguly was quoted as saying by Telegraph
