Virat Kohli is one of the most easy-going cricketers in the world today. He recently became the first and only Indian captain to win a maiden Test and ODI bilateral series in Australia.
However, if reports are to be believed, Virat Kohli might have kept a former Australian cricketer waiting for an interview. According to sources in Australia and reports there, Kohli said a firm no to a former Australian player for an interview, stating that he can't do it till the end of the Test series. He even revealed that he would not differentiate between a normal journalist or a cricket legend and he would treat both the same way.
As per Mumbai Mirror, a website run by Indian expats, Indian Link, quoted Kohli as saying that a former Australian player had been requesting him for an interview and his refusal did not 'sit well with the player.'
Reportedly, Kohli also said that certain former players only speak to him if they want something.
"Only when they want something, they [certain ex-players] will speak to you a certain way. But it doesn't matter to me if I'm talking to you or someone who has 15,000 runs, at the end of the day it's human interaction. I'm not going to go above and beyond just because you have 15,000 runs. They don't see it that way, but I do," Kohli told the website, as per reports.
Speculations are high as to who the former Australian cricketer was and many believe that it might be either Steve Waugh or Ricky Ponting, both former World Cup winning captains of Australia.
A source in Australia revealed that Waugh's manager asked an influential Indian if an interview with Kohli can be organized. Waugh is not holding any media contracts in Australia currently but word is that he wanted to do something for Cricket Australia if the interview had materialized.
Waugh has been a keen admirer of Virat Kohli, going as far as asking his son Austin to emulate his batting style on the Indian captain.
Also, Virat Kohli reportedly took a dig at Australian commentator Kerry O’Keeffe, saying, "Did you hear Ravi Shastri's comments back to Kerry O'Keeffe the other night?”
