CAC didn't sack Kumble, there was an issue with Virat: VVS Laxman

Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly were asked to select India's next coach by the BCCI.

Kumble left his position citing an "untenable" relationship with Virat

It is now almost two years since the legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble resigned from his position as India's head coach due to an "untenable" relationship with captain Virat Kohli. But the whole controversial development remains fresh in everyone's minds.

The Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) consisting of the great Sachin Tendulkar as well as VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly was tasked with the responsibility of selecting India's next coach at the time.

This is when Ravi Shastri became India's head coach and together with Kohli found a strong working relationship for the team.

But now shedding light once again on how the whole Kumble-Kohli saga transpired behind the four walls, VVS Laxman has reiterated that the Indian captain wasn't comfortable at all with head coach's methods at the time.

"No one sacked Kumble. There was an issue as far as Kohli was concerned. He wasn't comfortable with Kumble's style," Laxman said in a discussion titled 'The Sublime Cricketer' at the Hindu Lit for Life fest 2019 here on Monday, January 14.

"The BCCI called the CAC to sort it out. We felt Anil did a fantastic job but the circumstances led him to resign. If I was in his position, I'd have done the same. As far as the CAC was concerned, we mentioned Anil was the one to take India forward. That was what we told the BCCI."

"Once Anil resigned, there was again applications and we thought Ravi (Shastri) was the best option. It wasn't Virat's choice. Anil is a legend of the game. His contributions to Indian cricket are immense. So the bad press he got during the Champions Trophy was uncalled for. He didn't deserve it," he added.
