James Pattinson will be missing rest of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season with an untimely side strain.

The Brisbane Heat fast bowler sustained this injury during his team's eight-wicket defeat in the league encounter versus Melbourne Renegades at the Gabba on Thursday, January 10.

The 28-year-old, who underwent back surgery in November 2017, made a roaring comeback this cricketing season where he scalped four wickets in five T20 matches at an economy rate of just 6.76.

Pattinson also bowled decently well for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield picking up nine wickets from four first-class games.

The injury has not only jeopardised Heat's chance in the Big Bash but also the widespread calls to see Pattinson back in the Test side for Australia ahead of the away Ashes this year.

Brisbane Heat squad (updated): Chris Lynn (c), Max Bryant, Ben Cutting, Brendan Doggett, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Lalor, Brendon McCullum, James Peirson, Jack Prestwidge, Matt Renshaw, Alex Ross, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
