KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya suspended pending inquiry: CoA chief Vinod Rai

Pandya and Rahul will not be allowed to play for India until the inquiry is completed.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been suspended pending an inquiry into their controversial comments on the TV show, Koffee with Karan. CoA chief, Vinod Rai confirmed the suspension of the two players to PTI.

“Both Pandya and Rahul have been suspended pending an inquiry,” Rai said.

CoA member, Diana Edulji had earlier recommended both the players to be suspended until the outcome of the inquiry, after consulting legal opinion on the matter. Vinod himself recommended a ban of two ODIs for both players but with Edulji taking the legal route, the ban was not considered immediately.

Both cricketers appeared on the show which is hosted by Karan Johar, and went on to make some comments that offended a lot of people. The cricketers opened up on women and their relationships.

Pandya apologized and accepted that he got carried away on the show, adding that he will refrain from repeating the mistake in the future, while Rahul has chosen to stay silent.

The suspension means that Team India will be without both players for quite sometime and will in all likelyhood ask for replacements for the ODIs in Australia and possibly the limited overs tour of New Zealand to follow.
