Australian destructive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell wants to prove that he has the technique and temperament to play Test cricket after being continually overlooked by the national sectors for the longest format of the game.

Maxwell, who hasn’t played a Test since Bangladesh series in 2017, was once again not picked for the home four-match Test series against India, which they lost 1-2 to the touring side, and now he is aiming to make all the right moves by played red-ball cricket elsewhere.

The 30-year-old had recently signed a deal with County Championship Club Lancashire, which will offer him one first-class match and six one-day matches to stake his claim for Australia's World Cup 2019 squad, before joining his teammates for a training camp in Brisbane in May.

However, Cricket Australia selection chairman Trevor Hohns lauded Glenn’s decision to make himself unavailable for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 to play red-ball cricket for Lancashire in a bid to earn a spot in Australia’s Ashes 2019 squad.

Maxwell told cricket.com.au, “As Trevor Hohns said, in that white-ball World Cup let's just hope I can make enough runs in the one-day format, wherever I'm batting, and it's good enough to show them I have the technique and temperament to play Test cricket.”

He signed off by saying, “Because I feel like I'm doing everything I can and I'm trying to make all the right moves off the field by getting red-ball cricket elsewhere and showing I'm 100 percent serious.”

Noteworthy, Maxwell has represented Australia in only seven Tests, in which he has scored 339 runs at an average of 26.07 with the highest score of 104, while his limited-overs record is good having scored 2,242 runs, as well as, 8 Test, 45 ODI, and 26 T20I wickets respectively.
