The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a show-cause notice to allrounder Hardik Pandya and Opener KL Rahul on Wednesday (January 9) and asked the duo to explain their controversial comments on women on a popular television show - Koffee with Karan within 24 hours.
The 25-year-old all-rounder Pandya along with opener Rahul recently appeared on the celebrity chat show hosted by the renowned Bollywood director Karan Johar and became the talk of the point, but for all the wrong reasons -for making "misogynistic" and "sexist" remarks on women on the television.
On the show, Pandya revealed he once informed his parents that he lost his virginity by telling them, "Aaj mai kar ke aaya."
Pandya boasted, “When I lost my virginity, I came home and said, 'Main karke aya hai aaj (I had sex today)'. At a party my parents asked me 'acha tera wala (women) kaun sa hai [who is your interest here?] so I said yeh, yeh, yeh (pointing out women)' and they were like 'waah proud of you beta'”
While Pandya apologized for his comments on the social media by saying that he got “carried away by the nature” of the show after he was brutally criticized by many for his remark on the social media, Rahul is yet to respond to the criticism.
Hours after Pandya’s post, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) had issued a show cause notice to the duo and sought an explanation within 24 hours over the same.
The CoA chairman Vinod Rai told PTI, “We have sent show-cause notices to Hardik Pandya and K. L. Rahul for their comments. They have been given 24 hours to give an explanation.”
Meanwhile, Pandya’s comments were reportedly deemed “crass and cringe-worthy” by the BCCI top brass and the Indian Cricket Board might take a decision on banning Indian cricketers to appear on “such non-cricket shows” following the controversial episode.
A BCCI source told PTI, “It will be considered whether players should even be allowed to appear on such shows which have got nothing to do with cricket.”
Noteworthy, both Pandya and Rahul are currently in Australia for the three-match One Day International series starting from January 12 in Sydney.
