Young Australian batsman Jason Sangha realized the dream of playing with his idol on December 21, as he got the opportunity to bat with one of his idols Joe Root during his Big Bash League (BBL) 2018-19 debut for Sydney Thunder, and the young gun could not ask for more on his debut at home.

Playing against Melbourne Stars in Canberra, the 19-year-old Sangha played a stunning knock of 36-ball 63* laced with four fours and four maximums in his debut BBL match to become the youngest player to hit a half-century in the tournament, as well as, helped Thunder to win the encounter by 5-runs via DLS method.

The right-hander, who captained Australia in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2018, was all over the moon as his idol Root –England Test skipper, has taken him under his wing and he just loved batting with him and it was really an amazing experience for the youngster.

Sangha told cricket.com.au on Saturday (December 22), “Joe's been amazing. Joe's taken me under his wing and I've absolutely chewed his brain. Joe's been great, so has 'Watto', so has Jos. All of those guys have given me a lot of information in terms of T20 cricket and how to go about it. I've just been watching those guys in the nets so much. Yesterday, those three were batting in the nets at the same time, I was just watching them and how they go about their innings.”

He signed off by saying, “I was just soaking it all in really … I was batting with one of my idols Joe Root, so it couldn't really get better really for a BBL debut. I loved it. Joe was batting with me, he was just very calming, keeping my nerves down. I was just so excited. He was very good, we kept talking about making sure we go deep (into the innings). If we had wickets at the back end, we knew we had 'Samsy' … to come in with some firepower as well. All the boys made my job really easy.”
