The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued an ultimatum to the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI), ordering it to pay US$23m (roughly Rs 160 cr) in the next 10 days to compensate for the tax deductions incurred in hosting the 2016 World T20 in India.

If the BCCI fails to comply ICC’s demand then India may well be stripped of its right to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2021 and World Cup 2023.

Stating that BCCI should compensate the whole amount which the cricket's governing body incurred due to tax deductions when the ICC World T20 took place in India two years ago, the ICC has said that they could recover the amount by taking away the revenue share of BCCI in the present financial year, or could even do so by possibly stripping them of hosting the Champions Trophy in 2021 or World Cup in 2023.

The BCCI, in turn, has asked the ICC to share the minutes of any meeting in which the cricket's governing body was assured by Indian cricket board that the tax will be waived off. Moreover, it is also reported that those who were in the BCCI when the supposed meet held have no information of such tax waiver.

Report also suggests that should ICC fail to provide BCCI with the minutes of the meet, BCCI will not pay the amount. Furthermore, the Indian board might take a legal route if ICC deduct the amount from the revenue of the current financial year.
