Former Indian men's team coach Gary Kirsten, under whom India lifted the World Cup 2011 title, has applied for the vacant post of India women's team coach job, says media report.

"Yes, Gary has applied for the job," the Times of India quoted a BCCI official as saying.

After a three-year stint, Gary had stepped down as India's cricket coach back in 2011. He had said leaving the team has been one of the hardest goodbyes he has had to make.

Kirsten has recently replaced Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Daniel Vettori as the head coach.

Indian women's team had a rough time recently after their unsuccessful outing in the T20 World Cup 2018 in West Indies. Former head coach Ramesh Powar and Mithali Raj were not happy with each other's work. While Powar blamed Raj for not being cooperative, the veteran batswoman said Ramesh was unfair towards her.

The interviews for the coaching post will be conducted on December 20 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
