The ever-increasing threat of corruption in cricket made its way to the Just-concluded second edition of the T10 Cricket League 2018 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Reportedly, the just-concluded T10 Cricket League 2018 has also come under the guise of corrupt practices, as a support staff member of the Bengal Tigers franchise was approached during the second week of the event in the UAE.

A source told India Today, “A person claiming to be a potential sponsor approached the support staff. He soon began to seek direct contact with players with a possible agenda of seeking information. The matter was immediately reported to the Anti-corruption unit who took care of the case.”

The incident occurred in the tournament sanctioned by International Cricket Council (ICC) despite being played under the surveillance of the anti-corruption unit and WADA teams.

While one more different franchise also came under the scanner. The source further added, “It first appeared as a possible honey trap but after investigations turned out to be a false alarm.

Earlier, Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman T10 League, had said about the anti-corruption measures implemented during the event, “We have outsourced the entire ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and with each team, we have an ICC anti-corruption integrity officer. We strive to make this league where corruption can be checked at every step.”

On the other hand, Alex Marshall, the general manager of ICC's ACU had admitted that bookmakers would certainly target the franchise leagues which have been flourished across the globe.

Marshall stated, “My point was not that the Tweny20 attracts corrupters but the explosion of the Twenty20 events, including some private events and some are designed for the whole purpose of corruption, have presented a new opportunity to the corrupts.”

The Bengal Tigers franchise featured world-class stars likes of Zaheer Khan, Sam Billings and Jason Roy.
