Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel had sledged Australian great Steve Waugh during India's tour to Down Under in 2004. The game was at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and Waugh was playing his last Test. 

Series was tied at 1-1 before playing the fourth Test and in that Test, India declared almost at the closing stages of Day 4, giving Australia an improbable 443 to win in just over 90 overs.

Walking out to bat at his usual three-down position, Steve got sledged by young 18-year-old Parthiv from behind the wickets.

"Let's see if you can play one of those famous slog-sweeps, and miss one," Parthiv said. "Show a bit of respect, You were in nappies when I played my first Test match," Waugh replied.

But after so many years, Steve recalled the incident and said it was not sledging for him. "It's not sledging," he said. "People say there's too much sledging in the game, I think you can do it in a different way and have a bit of a laugh and a bit of fun.

"While people say that was a sledge, to me that was banter."

Waugh also recollected memories from Virender Sehwag's memorable 195-run innings in the Boxing Day Test. "He was an incredible player who just didn't seem to care that he was playing in a Test match, it was like he was playing in his backyard against his mates, he would just throw the bat,” Waugh said of Sehwag.

“He'd go out and dominate from ball one, and that was a different type of Indian player than we'd seen in the past."
