Shannon Gabriel has been lashed out two demerit points and suspension from the second Test of the ongoing series against Bangladesh, following an ugly physical altercation with Imrul Kayes in Chittagong.

Charged with 30 per cent of his match fees, Gabriel was seen making "inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an international match".

In an incident that took place during the eighth over on Day 1 of the first Test at Chittagong, Gabriel made intentional contact with the left-handed Kayes and "in opinion of the on-field umpires, this physical contact was avoidable. Gabriel admitted the offence on Friday morning and accepted the sanction proposed by David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing," the ICC media release stated.

This is not just a one-off incident relating to Gabriel, who was fined 50 per cent of his match fees and handed three demerit points against Pakistan last year after the Jamaica Test. Gabriel has now accumulated five demerit points that convert to two suspension points.

The development comes across as a massive blow to the visitors, who are already bereft of their original skipper Jason Holder's tactical acumen and his proper all-round ability.
