Legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne suggested, on Monday (November 19), the name of his former teammate Mark Waugh to replace Graeme Hick as batting coach of the Australian cricket team following their continuous struggle with the willow across all formats of the game.

Warne launched an attack on batting coach Hick after Australia’s latest collapse against South Africa, as the Kangaroos have just managed to win only one match in the limited-overs series –three One Day Internationals and one-off T20 International at home.

He is really worried about the prospect of facing India soon at home following the disappointing Proteas series and called for a new batting coach and he is wishing to see Waugh in the ranks.

Recently, Warne said on Fox Cricket, “Consistently in all these games (batsmen) make the wrong choice with shot selection. Have (we) got to look at Graeme Hick and say what are you telling these guys? I know responsibility has got to come down to the players but it’s happened too often, is there a specific thing they are trying to do because whatever it is it’s wrong. Maybe it’s time for a change there and we get a new batting coach because the batters aren’t performing… maybe it’s time for a batting coach.”

Meanwhile, the Aussie great has announced his choice on Twitter while discussing with Waugh about current Australian batting show as their bowling as always is brilliant but they lost matches especially because of batting and Hick seemed to have very little influence on the fortune of the national side.

Warne wrote on Twitter on Monday, “No one has really put their hand up & unfortunately Sheffield shield cricket is not what it once was. Hopefully, CA change their attitude and make shield cricket important again! Wish you were the batting coach Junior.”

However, Waugh, who played 128 Tests and 244 ODIs for Australia - many of which were with Warne and averaged 41.81 and 39.35 respectively, is yet to make a comment on the same.
