India A is currently touring New Zealand and it features some of the players who will be playing in the four-match Test series against Australia in December.

In the first four-day match against New Zealand A, Parthiv Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Hanuma Vihari started off on a positive note with half-centuries to their name in the match at the Bay Oval in Tauranga. India A posted a strong 340 for 5 from 89.4 overs after opting to bat first.

Shaw had scored 62 while Vihari got 86, while Parthiv remained unbeaten on 79. However, the two senior players in Ajinkya Rahane (12) and opener M Vijay (28) failed to convert their starts into big scores. Mayank Agarwal, who was overlooked for the Australia Test series, scored 65 to continue his good form.

Parthiv Patel remained not out on 79

Shaw and Agarwal added 50 for the second wicket before Shaw was dismissed by left-arm spinner Theo van Woerkrom for 62 off 88, with six fours and a six. Agarwal and Vihari then added 73 for the third wicket. Then Vihari and Parthiv Patel put on 138 for the fifth wicket and seemed set to take it to the stumps, but Vihari perished with two balls remaining in the day, caught behind off pacer Kyle Jamieson.
