Virender Sehwag says Virat Kohli should speak with responsibility

Kohli's statement backfired him when he asked fans to leave India if they can't support Indian players.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has opened up on Virat Kohli's comment which left everyone stunned. While some are standing with the Indian captain, others are opposing his views where he asked Indians supporting cricketers from different nation to leave the country.

Talking to Times Now, Sehwag said the celebrities should think before they speak as they have an added responsibility on them. Their words have value and hence, should be used wisely.

“He (Kohli) has 27 m followers. How does he read everything that is written? It’s his call on what he’s done but as celebrities, there is an added responsibility on us because, in the end, we respond to fans through social media and not anyone else,” said Sehwag.

Virat had recently requested BCCI to rest the Indian star bowlers for Indian Premier League 2019 which will be played before the ICC World Cup 2019.

Sharing his opinion on it, Sehwag believes it doesn't make sense unless a player is injured.

“What will the players do sitting at home for 2 months? This makes sense only if they have niggles before otherwise why stop them? I’ve been part of a management and if I have a player I will play him for a full season and not at his best,” the former explosive opener added.

Sehwag will be taking part in the upcoming T10 league set to be played in UAE from November 21. He is one of the icons of the tournament.

He talked about his rivalry with Pakistan cricketers, especially Shahid Afridi. “Season 1 I was scared of Pakistan bowlers so I batted down the order but this year I’m confident of seeing them through..my rivalry with Shahid is amazing and adds to the flavor of cricket in general,” said the 40-year-old who played overall 42 matches against Pakistan in international cricket. “We’ve always talked about cricket in Olympics and this is the way to go about it if we are to make it in Olympics.”

Zaheer Khan also had a chat with Times Now where he discussed the India tour to Australia. “The tour of Australia will be a big big challenge and it is the perfect platform for India to show their capabilities down under," he said.

Zaheer will also be part of the 10-over format league in UAE. He thinks the tournament will make the game more fun. “Leagues like this have more connect with viewers and they are fun to watch but test cricket will always remain at the top when it comes to players proving themselves but from the entertainment perspective this is the way forward.”
