Renowned Indian economist and former central bank governor Raghuram Rajan has come up with a unique suggestion for Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

In an exclusive interview with CNBC TV18, Rajan said that the aim of the RBI board should be to protect the institution, provide sensible advice and not serve the interests of others. And for this, he urged the RBI board to be as shrewd as the legendary India batsman Rahul Dravid and not Navjot Singh Sidhu.

“It (RBI board’s aim) is to protect the health of the institution, but also to provide wide, sensible advice. … the aim of the board is to be a Rahul Dravid, sensible, thoughtful and not, with due respect, Navjot Singh Sidhu,” Rajan quoted.

Dravid is widely regarded as one of the best cricket minds in the world. He is currently serving the India 'A' and India Under-19 side as a coach.

Rahul Dravid was recently inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame for his astonishing achievements in international cricket. Dravid became only the fifth Indian to receive this honour after Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Bishan Singh Bedi and Anil Kumble.

As far as Dravid’s cricketing achievements are concerned – he has aggregated 13,288 runs in 164 Tests with 36 centuries and 10,889 runs in 344 ODIs with 12 centuries during his 16-year long international journey.
