MS Dhoni’s exclusion from Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming T20 International assignments has left cricket fraternity discussing his future in international cricket, but former West Indies captain, Carl Hooper is confident that the ace batsman will ‘definitely’ make it to the World Cup 2019.

Many cricket experts and fans have expressed their doubts whether Dhoni will continue till next year’s World Cup in England after he was ignored for the home West Indies and away Australia T20Is.

However, Hooper, who is currently in India to commentate in the ongoing India-West Indies series, doesn’t feel the same, saying Dhoni’s experience will be valuable for the Men in Blue in the upcoming mega ICC events in England.

Hooper told Sportstar on October 28, “I don’t know about him in T20s, but certainly in World Cup, he will be selected. He has played more than 300 ODIs for India, his experience will be valuable.”

Meanwhile, he has been observing that Indian captain Virat Kohli is a bit of dependent on Dhoni while taking a few on-field decisions in the ongoing series. Hooper added, “I have seen Virat actually consult him on a number of occasions. I actually see him being selected for 50 overs format.”

He signed off by saying, “I am sure the selectors would speak to Dhoni and would indicate which direction they wanted to go in. He has served India well for a long time and is a former captain, so he deserves this much. He will be disappointed to have been dropped (from the T20s) but I am sure that the team has communicated with him well (about the road ahead). He still has the World Cup to look forward to.”
