Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene believes that Bangladesh has to work hard and believe in themselves that they can do it if they want to win the upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England.

In the major ICC events, the Tigers made it to the quarterfinal and semifinals but could not get the chances to lift the coveted titles so far. In the last World Cup in Australia, Bangladesh had managed to defeat England and enter the quarterfinals, only to lose to India. Even in the Champions Trophy last year, they reached the semis and lost to India, again.

He told Cricbuzz, “Well, they have to work hard. They had come close in Australia and if they have to challenge themselves they have to improve. I don’t think any team, even the qualifying teams, goes into the World Cup thinking they cannot win the World Cup, and then they should not be there.”

The legendary batsman believes that it is all about the mindset when a team heading into the mega ICC events, saying no one can emerge as the winner until they have a winning mindset and Bangladesh need to have faith in themselves to set their goals for the big tournaments.

Jayawardene signed off by saying, “Their attitude has to be there. So don’t now quote me and say Bangladesh can win. I said every team should have the mindset of winning the World Cup (when) they go to a competition. Asia Cup is the same. If there is no mindset then the teams should stay home.”
