Ahead of the inaugural edition of Mzansi Super League, Faf du Plessis has said that he is expecting the people of Paarl to be thoroughly entertained by Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.
The experienced West Indian was signed up as a marquee international player by Paarl Rocks during the main player draft last week. Du Plessis will lead the Paarl based franchise in the tournament.
Speaking at the launch of the Paarl Rocks franchise on Monday, Du Plessis said: “Very happy to have him [Bravo] on board, I obviously played a lot of cricket with him at Chennai [Super Kings] all the years that we have been together.”
“He’s a massive entertainer and people love him because he brings an x-factor to the team. He’s also a very successful player and has won a lot of trophies, with Chennai but with also with his team locally in the Caribbean,” he added.
It is worth mentioning here that Du Plessis and Bravo have shared the dressing room with each other at Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
The Proteas skipper was also happy for his country’s own T20 league. He hoped that the tournament will attract more big names in the coming seasons.
“Unfortunately, Bravo is only available I think for half the tournament, so hopefully for next season we can have all the international marquees available for the home tournament,” Faf du Plessis concluded.
The names of six teams featuring in the tournament are – Cape Town Blitz, Durban Heat, Jozi Stars (Johannesburg), Nelson Mandela Bay Giants (Port Elizabeth), Paarl Rocks and Tshwane Spartans (Centurion). The league, named after a colloquial term for South Africa, will run from 16 November to 16 December.
