Indian skipper Virat Kohli might have been in everyone’s mind at the moment after hitting his 36th One Day International century on Sunday (October 21), but his one comment that he has “few years left in his career to enjoy this sport” also left everyone thinking about the remark at the same time.

Speaking at the post-match press conference after winning first ODI against the West Indies, the 29-year-old right-hander said that he has a few years left in him to enjoy the sport and injuries that he has faced in 2018 may be the reason behind that comment.

The Captain stated, “I have few years left in my career to enjoy this sport. Playing for the country is a matter of pride and a huge honor. You can't afford to take any game lightly. You got to be honest to the sport and that is when the sport gives you back. I try to do that.”

The dashing batsman might take a call on his career sooner rather than later due to the injury concerns, but his childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has denied all such possibilities, saying the run-machine isn’t going anywhere until the age of 40, as his hunger to make runs will not satisfy him before that.

Mr. Sharma told India News, “I don’t think he wanted to say a few years. You be assured. You will see him playing for India for the next 10 years. He will not retire before the age of 40 as his appetite to make runs will not satiate before that. He did not want to say that. He wanted to say that he has 5-7 years left to play the game. He is not going anywhere for the next 10 years. There is no injury concern to him.”

Noteworthy, Kohli has missed a number of games in 2018 due to injury concerns and it was all started with the South Africa tour earlier this year and he had to skip the third and the final T20I of the series and later, he went on to miss Nidahas Trophy.

Later, the skipper suffered an injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 and missed his county stint with Surrey due to a neck injury. He also missed Asia Cup 2018 to manage his workload suffering from a back issue during the second Test against England in Lord’s recently.
