Shardul Thakur set to miss T20Is and Tests in Australia

Having sustained a right adductor tendon injury on his Test debut against the West Indies, Shardul Thakur will have to undergo a rehabilitation programme for a duration of at least seven weeks.

Subsequently, the right-arm pacer will be unavailable for selection prior to the T20Is as well as Tests on India's upcoming tour of Australia.

The series down under kickstarts with the first T20I commencing on November 21, whereas the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins with the all-important Adelaide Test from December 6.

Thakur, who won't be able to take part in any of that now, himself confirmed the unfortunate development on Monday, October 22, to Indian Express and said, "Even if I try hard, I won't be able to get fit before the second Test in Australia [which starts on December 14]. A place in the T20Is or the Tests will be difficult."

"I will be eyeing the one-dayers instead. Let's see how my rehab goes. I will continue with my training for the next seven weeks," he added.

Earlier, the 27-year-old also suffered a groin injury during the early part of the Asia Cup and had to fly back home immediately after playing just one game against Hong Kong.

Thakur recovered to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy soon and was picked for the Test series against West Indies but again got badly hurt just 10 deliveries into his Test debut at Hyderabad.

"The injury from the Asia Cup was different to this one," Thakur said and signed off, further informing, "During the Test match, I felt like my muscle was torn off. I started limping and when Virat (Kohli) asked me what was wrong, I told him it felt like a tear."
