Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Baba Indrajith to lead Tamil Nadu in the First-Class competition

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has confirmed on Monday (October 22) that Baba Indrajith will lead Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2018-19.

The association has taken the decision to name Indrajith as captain for the upcoming domestic season 2018-2019 after discussing with the state senior selection committee. The 24-year-old replaced Abhinav Mukund, who led the stateside in the last season of the Ranji Trophy.

A media release from the TNCA further said that the Tamil Nadu squad will be picked on October 24 for the upcoming Ranji tournament.  

The all-rounder is looking at the captaincy with a long-term perspective and hoping to build a strong team along with focusing on playing good cricket for the side.

Indrajith told Press Trust of India, “I am very happy to be named captain. It is an honor to lead Tamil Nadu. I am looking forward to the challenge of captaining the team.”

Meanwhile, the stylish right-hander, who scored a century in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy 2018-19, has amassed 2,662 runs including seven centuries in his 42 First-Class appearances for Tamil Nadu with the highest score of 200.

Tamil Nadu will kick off their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season against Madhya Pradesh in Dindigul on November 1 in Elite Group 'B'.
