Fast bowling experts such as Michael Holding and Aqib Javed feel Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action makes him injury prone, but the Indian speedster doesn’t pay any attention to such opinions as he is comfortable with what he is doing.

“I don’t focus on what the experts are saying or not. I focus on what has helped me and I try to focus on my body and what do I need to keep myself fit. There is not a perfect action in cricket, tell me a bowler, like that, who has not got injured. I focus on how to improve my fitness level,” Bumrah quoted as saying by PTI.

Bumrah has come a long way after making his debut in January 2016. He had a memorable last year, claiming 30 wickets in 23 ODIs and picking up 12 wickets in 11 T20Is. Moreover, Bumrah’s bowling exploits in ODIs ensured his place in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2017 and more importantly he received his dream Test cap during the South Africa tour earlier this year.

Featuring in his maiden Test series, Bumrah claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in the third Test at Wanderers and led a foundation for India’s historic 63-run victory over the Proteas in January. The speedster had scalped 14 wickets at an average of 25.21 during the hard-fought Test series that the Virat Kohli and company lost by 2-1.

Bumrah replicated the similar performance in three Test matches that he played in England. He picked up 14 wickets at 25.92 and was instrumental in India’s only Test victory in the series at Trent Bridge. Recently, Bumrah bowled superbly in India Asia’s triumphant Asia Cup 2018 campaign, claiming 8 wickets in 4 matches at an average and economy-rate of 16 and 3.67 respectively.

Following the West Indies home series, India will tour Australia. When asked about the Tour Down Under, Bumrah said it would not be sensible to comment on upcoming Australia tour without looking at the conditions.

“There is always bounce there but Australia now a days is known for high-scoring games well. I am not focusing too much ahead, I am focusing on whatever the next match I play. That’s always been my philosophy. When I reach Australia, I will assess the wickets. Because sometimes going there with pre-conceived notions and then it doesn’t happen, so you are in no space. I’ll go there, see the conditions and plan according to that,” he remarked.

The death overs specialist also lauded India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun, saying the communication with him has been fruitful thus far.

“You discuss plans with your bowling coach. That communication has been good. I had done one U-19 camp under him and he knows my bowling. It is always good when you have an experienced coach, who knows your strengths and weaknesses,” Bumrah concluded.
