BCCI allows WAGs to stay with players on overseas tours after first 10 days

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) for BCCI took this decision after Virat Kohli's plea.

Unhappy with BCCI’s regulation of not allowing WAGs to stay with players on overseas tours for more than 14 days, India skipper Virat Kohli had requested the cricket board to change the policy and let them stay for the entire duration of a tour. After discussing the subject over a couple of weeks, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has decided that the WAGs can now accompany the players on tours, except for the first 10 days.

It's been almost two weeks since Kohli had made the plea to BCCI. Although it doesn't seem that the BCCI was in full support of the request initially, the wish has now been granted.

As per a TOI report, the CoA is now of the view that there is no harm in WAGs travelling with the cricketers for the full course of a tour but only after the first 10 days. CoA also believes that WAGs presence will only create a positive atmosphere within the team and will provide an able support system.

Cricket Australia had also adopted a similar strategy in 2015 when their CEO James Sutherland had welcomed WAGs to give company to the players despite their presence being cited as one of the main reasons behind Australia's 2005 Ashes series loss in England.

Team India will now feature in a limited-overs series against the West Indies, featuring 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is. Subsequently, Virat Kohli and company will travel to Australia where they will play 3 T20Is, 4 Tests and 3 ODIs from November 21.
