West Indian star batsman Chris Gayle made a late entry into the Balkh Legends squad, but his presence really bolstered the strength of the franchise, which helped them to make it to the semi-finals in the ongoing Afghanistan Premier League (APL) 2018.

Gayle has once again proved why he is number one T20 batsman in the world when he smacked 80 off 40 balls including 10 sixes and 2 fours to help Legends to beat Kabul Zwanan on Sunday (October 14) to proudly sit on the top of the points table of APL 2018.

His presence made it easy for the Balkh Legends to settle on a winning combination and his years of experience will be fruitful for the youngsters and Gayle is also happy to be a part of the franchise and share his viewpoints and invaluable knowledge with youngsters.

Gayle told reporters after Sunday’s encounter, “That’s good news as that is the first objective for any team – to be in the top four. It’s been good so far. Before the tournament started, some of the players met and wanted me to be here and be a part of something. It’s been good from a team point of view. From a personal point of view, it’s good to be a part of a new franchise and share my viewpoints with youngsters. Hopefully they can learn a lot.”

He signed off by saying, “It’s about how quickly you adapt. It’s not that difficult since you play all around the world. It is about how quickly you gel with each other. Obviously there are some younger guys who can’t speak English but there are seniors who can translate for them. It’s been good fun.”
