Nepal bowled out China for 26 runs and chased won the total in just 11 balls to record its fifth win on the trot at the ICC World T20 Asia Regions Qualifiers match.

At the Bayuemas Oval, Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Rajbanshi and Basant Regmi claimed three wickets each to restrict China to one of the lowest-ever scores in the shortest format. Lamichhane, who was named Player of the Match for his staggering figures of 3 for 4 in four overs, took his tally of wickets to a tournament-leading 20, nine ahead of Singapore’s Manpreet.

For China, opening batsman Yan Jongjiang returned with the top score of 11 runs, with the next biggest contribution made by extras (9). A total of eight batsmen were dismissed for duck.

Nepal’s openers completed the run-chase in just 11 balls, with opener Binod Bhandari smashing 24 off just eight deliveries, including three fours and a six.

The victory puts Nepal on top of Asia Region Qualifier Group B while China find themselves at the bottom having lost all their qualifier games so far. Nepal will now face Singapore in the summit clash on Friday.

Speaking to news agency AFP, Nepal skipper Binod Das said: “The size of the country and its power do not matter (in cricket).”

“We shouldn’t undermine them because they may take over in future as they have the capacity to invest in infrastructure and skill development,” he added.
