The fall of MS Dhoni lately has raised questions on upcoming days of him in his cricket career. More problem for the 37-year-old as his competitor, the youngster from Delhi, Rishabh Pant is doing well with the bat and now seen as a potential replacement of Dhoni.

Should Dhoni hang up his gloves? His former teammate Gautam Gambhir has a say about it.

In a chat with Times Now, the 58 Tests veteran said, "Performance is the only criteria one can be part of a team. If you are not performing, you cannot be part of a team. Age doesn't matter. I am sure Dhoni will be wanting to perform and prove the critics wrong."

Gambhir isn't rating India as the favorites for the upcoming World Cup in England considering the strength of their competitors. "India is playing well now but can't really predict anything for World Cup. There are some very good teams like South Africa, Australia, and England. Can't call any favorites," the Delhi batsman said.

India will play five ODIs and three T20Is against West Indies in the upcoming days. If selectors do not decide to rest Dhoni, it will be a crucial series for the Indian wicket-keeper or things may turn ugly for him.

Ahead of the selection, one of the BCCI officials told PTI that while Dhoni is all set to play the next year's World Cup, there is no harm in grooming Pant. "We all know that Dhoni will play till the World Cup but there is no harm in grooming Pant, who could be a terrific No.6 or 7 batsman, who has the ability to finish games," the senior BCCI official privy to selection matters told PTI.
