Victorian captain Peter Handscomb has backed his enigmatic star Glenn Maxwell to have fire up with his exceptional all-round skills in the JLT One-Day Cup final against Tasmania on Wednesday (October 10).

Maxwell failed to impress with the bat and ball in Melbourne, but was sensational with his electric fielding, as the all-rounder affected a run-out and two catches to help Victoria to beat Western Australia by 63 runs to book their place for the summit clash at Junction Oval.

However, Handscomb is confident that Maxwell will do something special against Tasmania while lauding his stunning fielding efforts against WA on Sunday (October 7).

As per reports in cricket.com.au, Handscomb told media ahead of final, “Maxi got the run-out that really helped us change the game (against WA) and then a couple of great catches as well.”

The skipper further went on to laud Maxwell, “He didn't have a great day with the bat or ball, and he knows that, but he always manages to put himself into the game. He did that beautifully against WA and no doubt he'll do something special (on Wednesday).”

Meanwhile, he is expecting some improved performance from his bowlers in the final, saying they just need “a bit more consistency with the ball.”

Handscomb signed off by saying, “Throughout the tournament, we've bowled in patches really well but I still think we haven't put a full 50 overs together. It's our initial contact, our first few overs, where we've struggled a little bit. Oppositions have gotten away from us and then we've had to rein it back in. We've done that on most occasions but you can't let the game slide in a final.”
