Having seen them go about their business in the recently concluded five-match Test series in England, Ravi Bopara has said that the current Indian fast bowling unit is the best they have ever produced.

Bopara was surprised by the prowess and skill that the likes of Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami exhibited during the whole series and reiterated that, if the trio was rewarded for the number of times it created uncertainty and went past the bat, the scoreline wouldn't have been 4-1.

The 33-year-old was quoted saying on The Hindu as, “India played rather well and it wasn’t a 4-1 series; it was much closer, And I was really impressed by India’s pace bowlers," he added, "They were brilliant; the best of Indian seamers that I have seen in the 27 years that I have been following cricket. And Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t even play.”

Bopara, who is currently in Sharjah to feature for Balkh Legends in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), also spoke about the latest T20 competition that he is taking part in and how it can make an impact on the fortunes of Asia's rising giants.

He said, “This league is very important for Afghanistan’s cricket, This will help them become one of the most challenging teams in cricket, especially in the ODI variety,” and interestingly added, "They could do well in England(during the 2019 World Cup), too, but they might find the conditions a bit difficult,” before emphasizing, "In the World Cup after that(2023 in India), however, they could be fantastic. They already have some quality players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who could walk into most international sides."

Bopara also thinks that the APL will definitely help Afghanistan progress further and produce talented players.

"It has happened everywhere, be it in the IPL, PSL or the Big Bash, So Afghanistan too will find some young superstars," he said, "It has come at the right time for me, as there is no cricket in England at the moment, I decided to play here also because I wanted to play for different oppositions," and signed off.
