Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan fears that he will never get rid of the finger injury despite a planned second surgery in Australia this month. Shakib went through an emergency operation on his finger on September 27 in Dhaka after it became affected by a bacterial infection while he was featuring in the Asia Cup 2018 in UAE.

As per a report in AFP, doctors have cleared a whole host of pus from his infected finger and suggested him to undergo a second surgery once the infection has cleared.

"The main point is how I can cure the infection because my finger will never get back to 100 percent normal," Shakib told reporters at Dhaka airport.

"There is no chance of soft bone getting repaired again, it will not be completely okay, but with surgery they will put the hand into a shape from where I will be able hold bat and continue playing cricket," he added.

Shakib said he is still uncertain about his second surgery since he is yet to fully recover from the infection.

"The infection is my biggest tension. Unless it comes down to zero percent, no surgeon will put a hand on it. If they do it, it will go into the bone, and if it goes into the bone, the entire hand will be spoilt," he asserted.

Shakib, who has represented Bangladesh in 53 Tests, 192 ODIs and 69 T20Is, picked up the injury on his left little finger during an ODI affair in January. Subsequently, he was out of action for two months. He wanted to undergo surgery before the Asia Cup but the Bangladesh Cricket Board urged him to play in the marquee tournament.

Shakib played Bangladesh’s first four matches in the tournament, wherein he scored 49 runs and claimed seven wickets. However, he developed the finger infection in the process. The condition worsen so much that he has now been sidelined from cricket for three months.
