BCCI’s policy of hiring commentators is undergoing a minor change as the board is looking to incorporate former cricketers for the role, suggests a report in Mumbai Mirror.

If it turns out to be true then renowned cricket commentator and analyst, Harsha Bhogle, will not be a part of BCCI’s new scheme of things. In fact, Bhogle is not commentating in the ongoing Test series between India and West Indies at home.

The current lot of commentators for the Windies series include Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, L Sivaramakrishnan, Murali Karthik and Deep Dasgupta. For the West Indies, former cricketers Ian Bishop and Darren Ganga are doing the job.

As far as the Hindi commentary or studio discussion is concerned – the former players present are - Mohammed Kaif, RP Singh, Ashok Malhotra, Vivek Razdan, Atul Wassan and VVS Laxman.

Team India’s next assignment is in Australia from November 21 and the report adds that BCCI has taken a decision of not including neutral experts.

The only notable omission from the list is Harsha Bhogle. He was part of the commentary panel during the India-England series, but was not heard during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2018.

When asked about the same, Harsha told Mumbai Mirror, “I have taken a break,” and thereby avoided dragging himself in a controversy. An official from Star has also told the same newspaper that the question on Bhogle’s absence must be posed to BCCI

It is worth mentioning here that Harsha had returned to commentary box in July 2017 when India had toured West Indies. For some undisclosed reasons, Harsha was barred from the commentary team for any of India's series since ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
