Discarded Indian Test opener Murali Vijay and all-rounder Washington Sundar have been included in the Tamil Nadu's squad on Monday (October 1) for the remaining matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19.

The duo has been named as the replacements for the injured V Yo Mahesh and C Hari Nishanth in the remaining three matches of the tournament by Tamil Nadu to bolster their chances to reach the quarter-finals.

After being dropped mid-way through the England tour, Vijay decided to play for Essex in the County Championships to prove his form ahead of the West Indies series. But, he has been once again overlooked for the two-match Test at home despite having impressive with the bat in the County Championship, scored three fifties and a century in five innings for Essex. However, the opener failed to impress the national selectors with his Essex show but rewarded state call-up to prove his worth.

On the other hand, Washington has been out of action since late June after having suffered an ankle injury during training with the Indian cricket team before the Ireland T20Is and was ruled out of the tour. The all-rounder had played his last competitive game in the IPL 2018 in May. Now, he has regained full fitness and earned a call-up to his stateside to stake his claim for national contention.

Meanwhile, Mahesh, who came into the squad as a replacement for K Vignesh, has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, while Hari Nishanth leaves the squad after not getting a single match.

Tamil Nadu has won four out of their six league games so far and now they have to win their next three matches against Tripura, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana to make it to the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
