Australia's D'Arcy Short created history on Friday (September 28) by scoring 257 runs off 148 balls during a JLT One-Day Cup match in Sydney.

Coming in at No. 3, Short smashed 15 fours and a record 23 sixes in his monumental innings that took Western Australia to 387 all-out in 47 overs against Queensland. The knock was even more astonishing given that the next highest score in the batting sheet was 27 by Marcus Stoinis.

While D'Arcy Short took 83 balls to notch up his second List A hundred, he went berserk thereafter and scored the next 100 runs in just 45 balls. The 23 sixes he hit was also a List A record, with the previous highest being 17.

Short was eventually dismissed for 257 in the 46th over by Matthew Kuhnemann as he was caught outside his crease which allowed the wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson to dislodge the stumps.

With this herculean effort, he joined Ben Dunk, Phillip Hughes and Travis Head in the list of cricketers to have one-day double ton on Australia soil. Short surpassed Dunk’s previous best of 229* as the highest List A score by an Australian.

Only India’s Rohit Sharma (264 against Sri Lanka in 2014) and Surrey’s Alistair Brown (268 against Glamorgan in 2002) have higher scores in List A cricket than Short.
