Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli has been conferred with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Along with Virat, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu also received the prestigious award.

Kohli's sister Bhawna Kohli Dhingra was proud of her brother who reached yet another milestone. She posted pictures of Virat on her Instagram account and wrote, "So Proud".

Kohli is the third cricketer to be awarded the Khel Ratna after Sachin Tendulkar (1997) and MS Dhoni (2007). BCCI had recommended Kohli for the past three years but in 2016 he missed out owing to the Olympics where the award went to wrestler Sakshi Malik, shuttler PV Sindhu, and gymnast Deepa Karmakar. Last year it went to hockey player Sardar Singh and para-athlete Devendra Jhajharia.

The 29-year-old's family member was present at this special occasion. Kohli was cheered on from the audience by his wife Anushka Sharma, mother Saroj Kohli and brother Vikas Kohli.
