Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) has officially appointed right-hand batsman Dinesh Chandimal as their One-Day Internationals Captain, replacing Angelo Mathews after asking him to resign from his position following the Asia Cup disaster.

Sri Lanka couldn't even make it to the second round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2018 in United Arab Emirates, as the Island nation lost quite one-sidedly to both their Group opponents Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The limited overs game has, for a while, been Sri Lanka's worst performing format and hence, the selectors have decided to make a change in the side's leadership.

Earlier in the year, Chandimal successfully replaced Mathews for ODIs and T20Is assignments as the latter found himself injured and now the former has been reinstated as the full-time limited overs captain. Chandimal is already Sri Lanka's regular Test Captain and one of their best players.

A media release stated that the SLC has "requested Angelo Mathews to relinquish his duties as the National ODI & T20I captain, with immediate effect."

Chandimal's first assignment will be the limited overs series against England at home which begins on October 10, 2018.
