Australia's left-hand opening batsman Matt Renshaw has talked about his chat with the Indian batting legend Rahul Dravid during the recently concluded Australia's A tour of India.
Renshaw, who is considered one of the best young players against spin in Australia didn't want to let go the opportunity to be able to speak with Indian Cricket's most dependable asset and learn from him.
Renshaw and Rahul Dravid were spotted having a long chat with left-hand during the first unofficial Test in Bangalore in the early part of September and now the former has revealed the details of things he asked and learned from the legend.
"I spoke to him a bit – my Dad has done a bit of work for his academy over there," Renshaw told cricket.com.au, "I spoke to him a little bit over there and just (took away) some little things, little gems of wisdom. Someone who's got (over) 11,000 … Test runs is someone you want to take as much from as possible. He was always really welcoming and very good with us talking to (me)."
He further added, "I talk about my ping-pong game being a little bit like Rahul Dravid - I just try to get everything back. I'll think about doing that in a Test match."
Renshaw, who did well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2017 in India, also talked on how despite scoring decent runs in that series, he wanted to still get better at playing spin.
"I watched a little bit of footage of my India tour last year," he said and added, "Although I got a couple of fifties, there's still areas I could work on and going big in those series would have helped us."
Renshaw is also part of Australia's Test squad for the series against Pakistan in UAE and he has his goals and ambitions set already.
He said, "I (want to) get an opportunity to bat all day, bat two days, bat three days – however long," before adding, "I'm just trying to bat and making the bowlers bowl to me and make them get me out rather than me getting me myself out."
Australia's 2-match Test series against Pakistan starts with the first game in Dubai from October 7.
