Sports Ministry confirms Virat Kohli to receive Khel Ratna on Sept 25

Sports Ministry of India announced that world champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli will get the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna on September 25.

Virat Kohli will become only the third cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni to be bestowed with the honour.

The world’s no.1 Test batsman as per as ICC rankings was previously nominated for the award in 2016 and 2017. The 29-year-old Kohli has 6147 runs in 71 Tests with 23 centuries and 9779 runs in 211 ODIs, including 35 tons.

Virat Kohli is currently spending time off the field, while Team India battles it out in Dubai's heat in the ongoing Asia Cup 2018. Kohli was rested for the tournament as he has been playing nonstop cricket for the past two years.
