Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said that even though he has been featuring solely in Test match cricket across last one year, he still hasn't given up hope on a comeback into the limited overs side and stated that he desperately wants to wear the coloured clothing in next year's ICC Cricket World Cup for the country. 

While they started off as assets in white-ball cricket too, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been simply left behind by current climate and trend in the limited overs game. 

Simply, put anything that comes in straight lines is easier to hit out in the "only 4 fielders allowed outside during 11th-40th overs and maximum 5 during the last 10, along with two new Kookaburra balls" rule than it was before, with the earlier ODI conditions. In the pre-2015 era, both Ashwin and Jadeja played key roles in India winning the Champions Trophy 2013 in England. 

Now though, Ashwin's last ODI game came in West Indies in June 2017 and since then, wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have climbed up the ladder and have been outstanding in the middle overs for their team. 

"I didn't do much wrong to be going out in the white-ball scheme of things. But I definitely believed that it was a zone where I needed to improve and achieve better things in terms of what I had," Talking about the issue at an India Today event, Ashwin said, "There is competition in terms of Chahal and Kuldeep who have done incredibly well in the last few months. Massive credit to them. But I do feel there will be a time for me at some stage. Because I didn't go out on account of bad performances."

Expressing his determination to prove people wrong and make a comeback, the thinking cricketer further added, "I'm always hopeful of what I can achieve in any given game. Like most of the others I believe I can crack a game open with the way I bowl because I'm a very brave bowler. Keeping all these things in mind, World Cup is something which every cricketer wants to play and I do want to play it," 

"If there is an opportunity and a window and if it does come my way I will have to be extremely prepared and extremely humble about the whole situation to be able to take it with both hands." he said in conclusion, "Which I think I find myself in that space today and if it presents itself and India needs it, then why not. I'm still hopeful of it,"

Regarded as one of the best spinners in the modern day game Ashwin, having made his debut in the game's longest version in November 2011, has taken 327 wickets at 25.6 across 62 Tests for his country so far.
