Jammu and Kashmir cricket might witness history in the next edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) as governor Satya Pal Malik is pitching to have its own franchise in the cash-rich event.

As a report in DNA, Malik is in touch with IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla to convince him to have a team from J&K besides hosting some IPL matches in the state.

“I am working with IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla  on the idea of having an IPL team for J&K. Very soon IPL matches will be played in J&K," Malik told reporters after launching the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' Programme in Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir has produced some of the outstanding cricketers in recent past. Three players from Jammu and Kashmir have been part of IPL in different seasons.

Parvez Rasool, who has featured in two international matches for India thus far, was part of IPL franchises such as Pune Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Another J&k player, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, was roped in by Kings XI Punjab for INR 20 lakh during the IPL 2018 auction. Manzoor is known for his effortless ball-striking ability. Mithun Manhas, a native of Jammu, has been a successful first-class player who played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors.
