Anti-corruption unit of Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) has detained five Indians over alleged match-fixing activities during the third ODI between Indian women's team and the hosts on Sunday, September 16.

The five individuals, as per reports, were first caught by the police and after being taken outside the ground in Colombo, got detained for long hours by the police investigators.

The concerned administrative authorities believe that the suspects may have had connections with gambling operators in the world.

An unnamed SLC official was quoted saying to AFP regarding the matter as, "We felt their behaviour was suspicious at the grounds and all of them were seen excessively communicating on their phones, We exercised our right to remove them from the ground and the police took over the investigation."

Earlier, two other Indian bookies were caught and interrogated by the Sri Lankan authorities too, after their repeated calls on mobile phones during a domestic T20 tournament match.

The SLC has also increased anti-corruption staff on cricket grounds after broadcaster Al Jazeera released a documentary in May, where it was revealed that a pitch curator, for one famous ground in the island nation,  took money for pitch-doctoring.
