Former India cricketer Chetan Chauhan has joined the bandwagon who want Ravi Shastri to be removed as the head coach of Indian cricket team. Chauhan held Shastri responsible for India’s recent 4-1 Test series debacle on English soil and reckons that the commentator turned coach shouldn’t be persisted in Australia tour later this year.

"Ravi Shastri should be removed as head coach before the Australia tour. Ravi Shastri is very good cricket commentator and he should be allowed to do so," Chauhan quoted as saying by PTI.

He also slammed Shastri for labelling Virat Kohli and his men as the best performing lot among all the Indian teams of last 15-20 years.

"I do not agree. In 1980s, the Indian team was the best travelling team in the world," Chauhan added.

There were plenty of hopes from Team India as they embarked on their England tour after winning 9 of their last 10 Test series. However, the No. 1 ranked Test side couldn’t live up to the expectations.

While India lost the first Test at Edgbaston by a close margin of 31 runs, they suffered a humiliating innings and 159 runs defeat in the second Test at Lord’s. India bounced back emphatically to register a comprehensive 203-run victory in the third Test at Trent Bridge but in the penultimate Test, Kohli and his men let go the early advantage and eventually coped a 60-run loss. India lost the fifth and final Test at The Oval by 118 runs.

The Test series defeat against England was India’s second successive overseas series loss in Shastri’s tenure. Earlier this year, India had lost the three-match Test series against South Africa 2-1.
