Having earned his maiden call-up to wear baggy green in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan in UAE, left-hand batsman Travis Head has given credit to his domestic performances as well as finding greater maturity in his overall game as the reasons behind his rise for Australia. 

After doing well against in India for Australia A, Travis was picked as part of the group of five uncapped faces Australia's 15-member Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Pakistan. 

Travis has also been one of Sheffield Shield's best batsmen, scoring 738 runs at 46.12 across eight games in 2017-18, after amassing  645 runs from nine matches at 43 in 2016-17.

Speaking about the welcome development in his career, Head was quoted as telling cricket.com.au on Friday, 14 September as, "Over the last three or four years in Shield cricket I’ve been able to put a few consistent seasons together on the board which is nice,"

"I think over the process of a few years I have come a bit more relaxed and especially over the last six months I have worked extremely hard on my game and the technical side of my game." he said and added, "I have spoken about my forward defence and that comes with more maturity. I just got a bit older and a bit (more) relaxed, so I am ready to go."

Not just on the batting front, Head is also ambitioned to contribute significantly with the ball. He says, he has been working really hard over perfecting his off-spinners and wants to be of really good use for his captain Tim Paine. 

He said, "It's something that I have worked hard on, although I didn’t get the results in India (with Australia A) that I would have liked, I don't think it really reflected how well I was bowling at training, so hopefully I get a bit of an opportunity."

Australia's two-match Test series against Pakistan begins with the first game in Dubai on October 7.
