Former Australian cricketer, Brad Hodge, feels that the national selectors have not done justice with all-rounder Glenn Maxwell after he was overlooked for the Pakistan Test series.

He is disappointed with the latest controversial exclusion, saying the Australian selectors hadn't given Maxwell enough chances to prove his worth in the Test cricket.

Earlier this week, the Victorian all-rounder has been once again overlooked for the two-match Test series against Pakistan to be held in the United Arab Emirates next month despite his fantastic run in the domestic circuit. Various former Australian cricketers criticised the move by the selectors included the likes of former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.

Maxwell scored 707 runs at an impressive average of 50.50 at Sheffield Shield, but new head coach Justin Langer wanted more domestic centuries from him, while Hodge insisted that Maxwell has all the professional traits to be in the Test squad on a regular basis in the national side.

Hodge told Macquarie Sports Radio on Friday, “It is disappointing ... for Maxwell to be out of the side. Unfortunately for Maxi he probably hasn't been given an extended run or a great opportunity.”

He further went on to claim that the Australian selectors have made a mistake to leave such a brilliant all-rounder for the UAE tour despite knowing the fact that they are already without Smith and Warner.

Brad signed off by saying, “He's a cricketer (who) you want in your side. He bats, bowls and fields and he's a good team man. It just goes to show that it's a hard hole to fill even when you're even missing (Steve) Smith and (David) Warner.”
