Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar is not convinced with Shikhar Dhawan's performances in the recently concluded Test series in England, saying the left-hander isn't fitting in the overseas line-up.

Recently, Virat Kohli-led Team India lost the five-match Test series 4-1 to England and the major cause of concern is the top-order for India, as none of their batsmen apart from skipper managed to impress with the bat and their lacklustre performance was the main reason of the series defeat.

Dhawan, who is one of India’s most experienced batsmen, drastically failed to live up to expectations by any means and managed only 162 runs in four matches at a dismal average of 20.25 and Agarkar is not convinced whether India should stick with the Delhi lad in the Red-ball Cricket.

However, there were a few positives for India despite the series loss and one of the biggest positive was that the bowling unit put out a stellar show throughout the series.

He further went on suggest that India need to sort out their batting order to taste consistent success in overseas conditions in the longest format of the game as they have already “a decent batting lineup.”

Agarkar told ESPN Cricinfo on Wednesday (September 12), “India have got a decent batting lineup. They need to get their batting right to get the results to go in India’s way. KL Rahul’s 100 has given some sort of confidence that he can open the innings. But, I am not convinced with Shikhar Dhawan. We got Pujara, Rahane and Virat in the middle-order. We don’t know whether they are better players than that. If India figures out their batting problems, they can win the games.”

He also said that young Rishabh Pant, who made his Test debut in the English series, needs to improve his wicket-keeping skills. Agarkar signed off by saying, “If you got batting right, there will be fewer chances to lose a game. Especially, with the bowling department doing well, the batting needs to be on the top. Rishabh Pant needs to get his wicketkeeping right.”
