After being picked in Australia's Test squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan in United Arab Emirates, right-arm fast bowler Peter Siddle has said that he feels satisfied and relieved about the selection and thinks his consistent first-class performances have finally paid off dividends.

While Siddle, who has picked up 211 wickets at 29.92 across 62 Tests, last played a game for Australia in November 2016, he has since been fantastic for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield and has just picked up his 500th first-class wicket playing for Essex in the county championship. He scalped 37 wickets in seven games at 16 apiece for the club and it is hoped, that he'll make an impact with his pace and ability to run in all day long.

Giving his reaction on the very good development in his career, Siddle was quoted saying by AFP as, “My philosophy has always been not to worry too much about what the selectors are doing. For me, it’s just about going out and enjoying my cricket, whether for Victoria or Essex, If I perform well, it obviously gives me a chance to put my name forward.”

“Last [Australian] summer was hard, I was bowling well but not taking the wickets, so it was nice to get over to England and take the wickets. My good bowling has paid off.he added.

Siddle also feels that it is injuries to main fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, which has led to his fortunate selection.

“You always need a little bit of luck along the way no matter how old you are and it’s my chance now to be around the group again and try to get in the side for that first Test.” believes the 33-year-old, “I’ll be doing everything I can in the next few weeks to get there. It’s been a few years and a lot of hard work in between to give myself another chance, and this is the icing on the cake.”
