Discarded Australian pace bowler Peter Siddle has penned down a fresh two-year deal with the Essex County Cricket Club following his two successful stints this season at English county on Friday (7 September).

The 33-year-old, who has had two seasons with the reigning county champions this season, is returning to Australia following the conclusion of his latest stint at Essex.

The seamer has taken 37 wickets in seven County Championship First Division matches for the club this year, which convinced the Essex management to bring  Siddle back for the next two seasons. 

After the conclusion of his latest stint at Essex, Siddle went on social media to express his keenness on joining the Essex side for the next season. He wrote on Twitter, “See you all next summer guys can't wait.” He is thrilled with the opportunity to play more two seasons for the county side. He is also excited to play with Alastair Cook, who signed a fresh deal with the side for next three years recently.

As per reports in Cricbuzz, Siddle said, “I have loved my time at the Club so far with the players and staff giving me a great welcome, and I really feel part of the team at Essex. As an overseas player, I am always committed to taking the whole experience in and not just picking up my money and being on my way at the end of a contract. There is a wealth of talent in this squad who are hungry for more success and I am thrilled that I can join them for a further two seasons and be part of it.

He added, “I'm also really excited to play alongside Cooky [Alastair Cook], we've had some really great battles in the past and it's going to be fun to play on the same side as him rather than against him.”

Meanwhile, Essex head coach Anthony McGrath said of Peter’s fresh deal with the County side, “We are ecstatic that Peter has agreed to be with us for a further two years. We have all seen the qualities he brings to this squad and complements our bowling attack perfectly. He has a wealth of experience and the professional attitude he applies every time he heads out onto the field is commendable, as well as being a great person to have around the Club off the field.”

Peter has represented Australia in 62 Tests, 17 one-day internationals and two Twenty20s so far.
