Anil Kumble is all set to play the role of a coach once again. Kumble, who resigned as India’s coach over differences with skipper Virat Kohli last year, has been approached by the IPL franchise – Delhi Daredevils.

According to a report published in Bangalore Mirror, it is learnt that Daredevils are in talks with Kumble to take over their team. Even though nothing has been made official as yet, Parth Jindal, one of the franchise owners and the JSW head, confirmed that they are keen to rope in Kumble as a mentor.

“We’ve touched based with him. The talks are on. If we are able to convince him, it would be great,” Jindal told Bangalore Mirror.

It is worth mentioning here that Australian batting legend Ricky Ponting was appointed as Delhi’s chief coach in IPL 2018 with the hope to revive the team’s fortune. However, DD had an underwhelming campaign. They managed to fetch only 5 wins out of the 14 matches and finished the league stage as the bottom placed team.

Besides the disastrous season as a team, Delhi also lost the services of their skipper Gautam Gambhir as he stepped down from the job after playing only 6 matches. Furthermore, Gambhir didn’t feature in the playing XI of Daredevils in the remaining 8 games.

Jindal also confirmed that Ponting will continue to be the head coach of the side. Both Ponting and Kumble had worked together at Mumbai Indians during their 2015 IPL triumphant.

For quite a while now, the Delhi based franchise have failed to make an impact in the cash-rich T20 league. It was way back in 2012 that the Daredevils had made it to the IPL play-offs.
