On the occasion of Teachers' Day, Indian captain Virat Kohli has taken this opportunity to thank his coach  Rajkumar Sharma and  gift him a special present.

This especial day is celebrated in the country to recognize the contribution of teachers, as well as, remember former Indian President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary (September 5).

2014 Teacher’s Day was special for Raj Kumar as Virat Kohli not only wished him but also gifted him a Skoda Rapid. He sent the keys of the car as well to surprise his coach.

It is well known the contribution of Sharma to the high-flying career of Kohli, who still takes advice from his first coach whenever things are not going well for him.

The 29-year-old right-hander has always been vocal about his love for his coach and credits him for the way he has coached him to become the player that he is today.

Meanwhile, on this special day, it will not be wrong to recall the story when Kohli gifted his Mentor a Skoda Rapid and Sharma was very happy to see his love for him, as well as appreciated how the Indian skipper values his contribution to his life and career. The same story was mentioned by Vijay Lokapally in his book ‘Driven’, released  in October 2016.

Lokapally wrote, “I answered the bell and found Vikas (Kohli’s elder brother) at the door. His brother’s arrival at his house so early in the day was cause for concern. Vikas stepped into the house, dialed a number and handed his cell phone to Raj Kumar. ‘Happy teacher’s Day Sir,’ said Virat, even as Vikas thrust something into Rajkumar’s palms – a bunch of keys.”

He signed off, “Rajkumar stood perplexed as Vikas requested him to step out of his house. A gleaming Skoda Rapid was parked at the gate – a gift from Virat to his mentor. It was not merely because he had gifted me the car. It was because of his emotional touch to the process of reminding me how much he treasured our association and valued the role of a teacher in his life.”
