Legendary  Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has hailed Alastair Cook a “wonderful ambassador” of the game of gentlemen’s and wished him all the very best after the Englishman broke the news of his retirement from International cricket on Monday (3 September).

Veteran England opener decided to retire from international cricket after the final Test against India at The Oval.

The 33-year-old, who is England's highest Test run-scorer with 12,254 runs and 32 centuries in 160 Tests, has 11,627 runs as an opener is sixth in the list of all-time Test run-scorer.

Noteworthy, the English opener has been struggling with the bat this year, averaging 18.62 in 16 innings and has managed to score just 109 runs with a  highest score of 29 in his seven innings against India in the ongoing five-match Test series at home.

Cook, who announced his decision by saying “There is nothing left in the tank” after England won the fourth Test in Southampton, is expected to receive a pre-match presentation from the national side at The Oval.

On Monday ( September 3), Afridi went on his official social media handle to wish Cook all the very best as well as told the English player that life after retirement from the game has less pressure.

He wrote on Twitter, “A wonderful player who was a wonderful ambassador of the game! Alastair Cook you are a true great of the game, all the very best in your life after cricket. Trust me so much less pressure. ????”
